Installing a window can be a daunting task, but with the right tools and instructions, it can be a breeze.
This guide will give you step-by-step instructions on how to properly install a window.

So, whether you are just getting started or a veteran DIYer, this guide is for you!
To Properly Install a Window, You Will Need These Tools:
-Drill
-Leveler
-Saw
-Tape Measure
-Caulk
-Caulk Gun
-Hammer
-Nails or Screws
-Chisel (optional)
-Ladder (optional)
-Viking Arm (optional)
Step 1. Measure The Rough Opening of The Window
The rough opening is the space in the wall where you will install the window.
To measure the rough opening, you will need to measure the width and height of the area.
To do this, use a tape measure to measure the distance between the left and right sides of the space.
Make sure to measure at the space's top, middle, and bottom too.
When you have finished measuring, take the smallest width and height measurements, which will be the dimensions of your rough opening.
Step 2. Identify and Remove Any Stops (If Necessary)
The sashes of old wooden windows are held in place by stops on the inside, between the two sashes, and on the outside.
If you're installing from the inside, take out the stops on the inside but leave the stops on the outside. If you are installing from the outside, take off the stops on the outside but leave the stops on the inside.
Score the frame where the stops meet with a utility knife.
You could try to pull them off. If you can't pry the stops off cleanly, they're probably stuck in the frame and need to be cut out with an oscillating saw.
Step 3. Install The Window
Now it's time to install the window. Start by applying a generous amount of caulk around the perimeter of the window. This will help to create a weather-tight seal.
Next, position the window in the rough opening. Make sure that it is level and centered.
If the window is not level, you can use a Viking Arm to prop it up until it is level.
Keeping the window level is key to a proper installation.
The Viking Arm allows one-person, precision adjustments and can support the weight of the window with ease.
As the installer tool of choice, the Viking Arm can handle even large window projects.

Once the window is level, use a drill to screw or nail it into place.
If you are using screws, make sure to pre-drill the holes to avoid splitting the wood.
Step 4. Add Trim
Once the window is installed, it's time to add the trim. Start by cutting the trim to size, then nail or screw it into place.
You can use a chisel to create a rabbet joint where the trim meets the window for a more finished look.
Finally, caulk any gaps between the trim and the window, which will help create a weather-tight seal and prevent drafts.
Paint the trim as needed to give the area your desired look.
